First Aid Training at Peregrinate

First Aid Training at Peregrinate

Peregrinate staff took advantage of the May half term break to update First Aid qualifications. The whole team took part and training lasted two full days which was held at our school on Long Lane Aintree Liverpool. Paul Turton of Total Life Support was our tutor. Paul has fantastic experience as he has previously worked as a well respected Paramedic in the NHS.

The first aid curriculum is updated regularly, so we all need to keep up to date with best practices, as well as the latest guidelines from the Health and Safety Executive.

The First Aid at Work training course provides the comprehensive set of practical emergency skills needed by first aiders in most workplaces to become a confident first aider at work. Giving both the ability and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies, it meets the standards required to help comply with Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations.

First aid training could be the most important course we will ever take. In the event of an emergency, our staff will have the knowledge and confidence to deliver potentially life-saving assistance. Although we undertake this training as part of our workplace requirement, these skills are invaluable in everyday situations.

Our team were taught a mixture of both practical and theory. They learned how to examine a casualty, CPR, use a defibrillator, whilst also receiving training in basic life support and how to control bleeding and trauma. These provide the skills to overcome a potentially threatening situation long enough for medically trained individuals to arrive on scene.

Other essential first aid skills were taught such as treating broken bones, burns and scalds as well as assisting a choking individual. Recording and reporting is another area covered which is especially important for our safeguarding practices.

All staff will receive update training every 12 months and the more experienced first aiders will continue to receive more advanced training covering more serious events every two years as well.
