Young Addaction Invited as Guest Speakers

Peregrinate recently invited guest speakers Young Addaction to offer our learners information, support and advice on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Young Addaction brought a variety of props with them which were used throughout their talk. These made the experience interactive and informative for our learners and encouraged engagement from all including staff. Probably the most popular prop was a pair of ‘beer goggles’ which were a pair of goggles where the lenses had been distorted to give the impression of being under the influence of alcohol and to show how your judgement can be impaired. Our learners were asked to perform some very simple tasks whilst wearing the beer goggles and of course all failed miserably. A great lesson to all taking part.

Young Addaction delivers a holistic service to young people and families across Liverpool. They are an outreach provision and see service users in schools and communities.

Young Addaction provides a service to young people in Liverpool aged between 10 and 19 and an additional needs service for young people between the ages of 20 and 24. They can help young people to get healthy by making better lifestyle choices and support them towards their future goals.  The service is free, confidential and non-judgemental and works with young people whatever their substance issues are including alcohol.

They run from 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday, with afterhours outreach (based outside the office) running on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 7:00pm – 9:30pm.

Young Addaction work out in the community in schools, colleges, youth clubs, neighbourhood centres and out and about on the streets of the city. Our schools programme and our Amy Winehouse Resilience Programme support young people to build self-confidence, self-esteem and to learn how to make safer choices and our staff based in the Youth Offending Service support young people when their choices have led them in to the criminal justice system.

Young Addaction Liverpool has a service user involvement group where young people can have their say in how they want the service to develop.  All statutory agencies can refer young people to their service but most importantly young people themselves can self-refer making the first step on their journey to a healthier life.

Young Addaction supports young people to understand the effects of their substance misuse and the harm it can cause to them and the people around them. Young people can rely on them for advice and information, and they can offer them a safe place to talk about things that are bothering them.

As well as one-to-one work, thy offer a range of early intervention programmes in schools, youth clubs and other friendly settings, helping young people to reach their full potential. Their services are completely confidential and they will never share what the young people tell them without asking their permission first. That means they can tell Young Addaction things without worrying about getting into trouble with their family, school or other people.
